Barry and District Soroptimists are taking part in the High Street Shopping Quarter Summer Fayre on Saturday, August 12, to raise funds for charity.
An event organiser said: “We’re delighted that they’re joining us in the run-up to their 50th anniversary. They will be selling homemade cakes in support of their various chosen charities.
“The event is all about the local community and of course supporting local independent shops.
“As such, we’ll also be joined by the Vale of Glamorgan Brass Band and Barry Community Choir.
“There will also be African drumming workshops, balloon modelling, a circus skills workshops, flower arranging competitions and lots of traditional fun and games.
“There will be a dog show running throughout the day – get in touch with Muddy Pawz on High Street if you want to get involved.
“Barry Round Table will also be getting involved. We’ll be joined by Bro Radio for the day. And not forgetting, there will be lashings of strawberries and cream teas.
“The event will see the launch of the town-wide Shop Local Campaign, which aims to promote and support the local independent shops across the town.”
The spokeswoman added: “As people may already know, High Street was recently voted the fourth Best Independent Shopping area in the UK, so it’s the perfect place to launch the campaign.”
