Countdown to GlastonBARRY!

By Tim Chapman in Entertainment

GlastonBARRY has established itself as one of the UK’s top tribute band festivals – this year’s event at Romilly Park was sold out with weeks to go and people are coming from as far away as Holland, Spain and France.

It is being held over the weekend of July 29-30.

The festival is the brainchild of cousins Matt Blumberg and Ross Mackintosh and was launched in 2013.

This week, Ross told The GEM: “I’m delighted to say that we have completely sold out GlastonBARRY and this year’s festival is so much bigger than before. “There will be over 1,500 people a day more than last year, 4,000 people a day in total.

“To completely sell it out with three weeks to go is remarkable.”

Ross said that one reason for the festival’s success was the price structure – £25 for the whole weekend and the chance to see 14 bands – that they had employed.

“We pride ourselves on being the most reasonably-priced tribute festival. That’s why we have people travelling to GlastonBARRY from all over Europe and the UK.

“We have visitors travelling from Spain, France and at least two visitors travelling over from Holland who put on a big tribute festival over there.

“They want to check out how we do things and look at some of the bands so it will be great to meet them.

“Matt and I will look to return the favour and travel over to Holland to check out their festival.

“We have some of the UK’s best tribute bands playing this year, and also headline theatre acts, including the headline act on Sunday night ‘Purple Rain: a Celebration of Prince’.

“We also have tributes to Stevie Wonder, Oasis, Bowie, ACDC, UB40, and many more.

“A huge thanks goes to our sponsors CJCH Solicitors, Sterling MC Commercial Finance and Barry Training Services for their support.”
