Munro Cup loss for men bowlers

Cadoxton were the visitors for Llantwit Major mens bowlers’ Munro Cup match on Wednesday.

Despite being two short when they arrived Cadoxton put up a good performance losing on three rinks, 72-54.

Steve Booker’s rink had a poor start, losing the first five ends.

Llantwit gradually clawed their way back taking the lead on the 14th end with a score of six then holding on to it for the remaining four ends to win by five shots.

Charles Hiscock’s rink had a slow start, being in arrears until the eighth end. A good run by Llantwit with five consecutive winning ends put them well ahead by eight shots.

Llantwit continued to score well, finishing with an impressive 10 shot win.

Adrian Woods’ rink came up against a strong Cadoxton rink who had the upper hand from the start, winning most of the ends to gain Cadoxton’s only win.

Graham Jones’ rink did not have their own way, being behind on the seventh end against a three-man team.

Cadoxton skip Don Kuhnell had a great game cutting down Llantwit’s score on a number of occasions. A six by Llantwit on the 10th end put them well on the way for a win, which they did by 11 shots.

Llantwit’s league game on Saturday was a home match against Ynysangharad (Pontypridd) who proved to be Llantwit’s hardest game to date.

Llantwit won on two rinks, 82-69, picking up 10 points.

Mike Harmon’s rink of Ian Wilkinson, Geoff Timms and John Nixon produced a wonderful performance, nearly pulling off a win.

The game was level pegging up to the final end when the visitors just pipped them by one shot.

Steve Booker’s rink were behind until the seventh end they then held the lead for four ends, before having a lean spell for the next four ends.

Some effective bowling by Llantwit’s skip kept them in the game, winning most of the last few ends to get home by three shots.

Charles Hiscock’s rink had a very close game for the majority of the match with nothing between the two sides.

Llantwit were two up on the 18th end before losing the final three ends to lose by two shots.

Graham Jones’ rink retained their unbeaten record in the league with another convincing win.

After losing the first end Llantwit won the next seven ends to be 12 up. The visitors came back, scoring 10 shots over six ends, but Llantwit wrapped it up by winning the last two ends to win by 13 shots.
