By Tim Chapman in Local People

Dinas vets, at 47-49 Cardiff Road, is passionate about pets, and passionate about the local community.

That’s why the practice owner, Emily Ward-Smith, with the support of the local community council, is putting on a ‘Dinas Powys Family Fun Day and Fun Dog Show’.

Emily, who lives in nearby Wenvoe, explained: “I realised there was nothing in Dinas like a fete or carnival over the summer and wanted to start something that will carry on in the future.

“It’s a family fun day and fun dog show aimed at all ages, and will take place on the Common on Monday, August 28. Local charities and businesses are involved too.

“There will be a bouncy castle, mini-tennis, stalls, games for children, an 11-legged race (two humans with three legs and two dogs on leads), a dog egg and spoon race (dog on lead, owner holds egg), doggy athletics, and a dog show with fun and serious classes.”

The classes are: Best Pedigree; Best Cross Breed; Waggiest Tail; Best Junior Handler; Doggy Egg and Spoon; 11-legged race (£3 per class).

People can pop in to Dinas Vets for a dog show entry form.

Emily added: “Everyone is welcome to come – it should be a lovely day out.”

Keep an eye out in The GEM for more details on the show in the coming weeks.
