Llanblethian WI is alive to the sound of music

This month, Llanblethian WI’s venue changed to the Clinton Room in the UFC church, as our usual hall was being used for voting.

Our evening was focused on music. Also at the Maendy Room in the UFC the Cowbridge Choral Society were practising – the whole building was alive with the sound of music, which made it very special, even though we came from different ends of the spectrum.

Our meeting opened with greetings to our new president, Mrs Lynne Mulcahy, which is a great pleasure; new blood, new broom – we are all very pleased and looking forward to the coming year with renewed energy.

Our guest impresario for the evening was Meryn Williams. Meryn conducts the Friday choir who meet at the Duke of Wellington Hotel and she is heavily involved in music in all dimensions.

She gave us a brief overview of her career so far, which included playing piano for one of our greatest tenors, Stuart Burrows; to playing for dance/ballet classes.

So varied is her involvement with music she is now using it for health issues such as speech therapy, cleft palate, and a number of social ailments.

Music has opened a whole new world in the medical field: what a joy to sing, instead of taking the tablets.

This lady shines with joy and has a wicked sense of humour. She played some beautiful serious music for us, and had us singing our hearts out. It was a joyous evening enjoyed by all.

If you would like to join us we meet at Llanblethian church hall the second Thursday of every month at 7.30pm. See you there.
