On a windy but dry Sunday morning, the Cowbridge Cricket Club under-9s continued their successful start to the Cardiff and Vale under-9s festivals.

Last weekend the team of 12 boys travelled to Radyr to play in a four team tournament.

First up was the team from Pentyrch and captain Theo Walker elected to bat first with the captain showing the way with 11 runs in the pairs’ two overs.

Other scorers were Wil Rees (8), Harvey Rees (16), Freddie Valencia (6) and Joe Smith (4) in a total of 262. Tight bowling by the whole team who only conceded 27 runs and taking two wickets saw the team home by 43 runs.

Four changes were made for the next game against Cardiff Blues to enable all 12 players to have two games.

Batting first again the team scored 37 runs off the bat, nly throwing away two wickets in a total of 242 runs.

Again tight bowling by the team restricted the opposition to 224 runs and victory by 18 runs. Wickets by Osian Davies, Will Rees, Joe Phillips and Sam Boyce were crucial in this victory.

With all the stars resting for the last game the younger boys took on the might of the home team.

In a close run game where runs from the bat were few, with Ollie Morgan top scoring with 6 in a total of 241. Tight bowling accounted for Radyr to lose five wickets taken by Freddie Valencia, Osian Bowen, Dylan Kitchen, George Morgan and Lloyd Morris to attain a nine run victory.

This week the squad take on the might of Cardiff Blacks, St. Fagan’s Stags and Barry Athletic at the High School ground Cardiff.
