Llantwit Major mens bowlers played their first league game of the season on Saturday with the visit of Bargoed who are one of the favourites for promotion.
Llantwit played exceptionally well to win the match 75-72, taking 12 points.
Steve Booker’s rink were four shots up after two ends with Bargoed taking the next five ends to be five shots ahead.
Llantwit clawed their way back to be on level terms on the on the 14th end then showed their supremacy for the rest of the match to win by three shots.
Adrian Woods’ rink had a closely-contested match up to the 14th end when they were four shots up. Bargoed then found the green to their liking, winning the remaining ends to win by 10 shots.
Charles Hiscock’s rink had an even battle up to the eighth end when LLantwit were level. Llantwit then shot ahead, winning four of the next five ends to be 13 shots up.
Bargoed responded taking six of the final ends to reduce the deficit giving Llantwit a two shot win.
Graham Jones’ rink started well, winning three of the first four ends. Bargoed then hit back, taking the next four ends to have a six shot advantage.
Llantwit’s rink of John Crane, Eric Sparkes and Neville Young combined well with their skip to then outbowl the opposition, taking nine of the last 13 ends to win by eight shots.
